1. Introduction

At Semester Copilot, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our service.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you sign up, we collect your email address and name through Clerk, our authentication provider.

Academic Data: When you connect your Canvas account, we pull data such as course names, assignment details, grades, and deadlines.

Canvas Tokens: We store your Canvas access tokens. These tokens are encrypted before being saved in our database.

Uploaded Files: If you upload a syllabus PDF, we process the text content to provide course insights.

Google User Data: If you choose to connect your Google Calendar, we access your calendar data to export course schedules and assignment deadlines.

3. Google API Data Usage

Semester Copilot's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Specifically, we only use Google Calendar access to create and manage academic events on your behalf. We do not use this data for advertising or any other purpose.

4. How We Use Your Information

To provide and maintain the Semester Copilot service.
To synchronize your academic data from Canvas.
To generate personalized briefings, flashcards, and grade simulations.
To notify you of upcoming deadlines and grade changes if opted-in.
To process payments via Stripe.

5. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data. Your Canvas access tokens are encrypted with AES-256-GCM. We use Clerk for secure authentication and Stripe for secure payment processing. We do not store your Canvas password or credit card details on our servers.

6. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We only share information with third-party service providers (like Vercel, Supabase, Clerk, and Stripe) as necessary to operate the service. These providers are bound by their own privacy policies.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your information as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time via the settings panel. Once deleted, we remove your academic data and Canvas tokens from our database.

8. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and to remember your preferences. These are managed primarily by Clerk.

9. Children's Privacy

Our service is intended for university and college students. We do not knowingly collect data from children under the age of 13.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
